About

LYLA was established in 2007 by a group of Native language learners from tribes indigenous to northwestern California. After a series of community input meetings the Live Your Language Alliance conferences were born. Communities and individuals throughout northern California were notified and many attended the first gathering at Humboldt State University in Spring of 2008. Local, regional and statewide experts in language revitalization were invited to share their expertise to a grassroots audience that returned with new ideas, methods and inspiration to their often very rural communities.
